For females, the female must be surrendered to breeder for breeding (2 weeks – may be brought back and forth) and for whelping . Guardian must inform breeder as soon as the female comes into heat. You are responsible for the general vet visits and the wellness of the puppy placed with you. This means feeding Eukanuba Large Breed Puppy, vaccines, heartworm prevention, fleas/tick medication, supplies, toys, treats, and training etc. You have to be willing to bring the dog to us for breeding purposes. You also must be within 2 hours from us here in Ulen, Minnesota.
Once your dog is of age, has passed all of her health testing, and is ready to breed , you will be responsible for detecting a heat cycle and keeping her away from intact male dogs during this time. Once her heat starts, guardian families are responsible for taking her to our vet in Lincoln, NE. She will stay at the vet until she’s bred, which could be up to a week. Once she’s bred, you will pick her up and take her home and care for her during her pregnancy. She will then come back to our kennel a week before she is due to whelp her litter, and will stay with us until her litter is 3-4 weeks old and the puppies are ready to be weened. Arrangements can be made for guardian families to visit during this time! We work closely with our vet to determine exactly when to retire them.
Do guardian families own the dogs in their care?
Live within 90 minutes of Hiddenite, NC and be flexible for dropping off and picking up the dog for health testing, vet visits, breeding, and whelping. As a Guardian Home you will be required to pay for the everyday expenses of owning a dog including annual exams, vaccines, food, etc. We will pay for all breeding related costs including health testing, progesterone testing, breeding related x-rays, etc. We work hard to select the best of the best of our dogs for our guardian homes. We have a financial penalty to discourage those that would want to get a dog and break the contract by using the dog for their own breeding program. After we do all the dog’s health testing we will then decide if we want the dog in our breeding program.
10% from each sale is donated to the Marsh Zhinok charity – a Ukrainian feminist organisation providing shelter, essential deliveries and legal and psychological support for women throughout the conflict. The cat is believed to have killed a leashed chihuahua mix on an evening walk on 9 November, KTLA reported. Another attack left a Chihuahua named Taz injured, but it will recover.
What is a guardian contract for a dog?
We don't want to be controlling or intrusive into a family’s life. Unfortunately, we have been forced to put a penalty for those who break our contract as we find some want the dog but have no intention of honoring the contract. We want to work with you and for this to be a win, win for all involved. We require no vaccinations, worming, flea medicines and heartworm during this time.
For us, and many breeders like us, the answer is a Guardian Home Program. If you are a guardian for a female dog, you must be willing to drop her off for 1-2 weeks while she is bred. At Doodles of Oz we believe that every dog deserves to have a loving, forever home. All of our dogs are part of our family and live in our home rather than kennels so that we know they are getting as much attention as possible. Because of this we have decided to offer a Guardian Home Program.
Declan earned his TKN, CA, Achiever Dog
Fortunately, we have never had a serious injury or loss to any dog in our guardian program. Remember they will already “know” us from the times we have taken them for testing or when we have “dog sat” for you. We try very hard to give them so much attention and love that it is a pleasant and enjoyable experience for them. Pups will go home with their guardian families at 8 weeks of age.

We reserve the right to cancel our guardianship program at anytime if we deem necessary. At the end of the Guardianship Contract, he/she will be neutered/spayed at our expense. Male Dream Dog parents must be made available for semen collection, evaluations and breeding; this includes 3-5 days on site with us approximately four times per year. Guardians are required to keep their Dream Dog intact until he is retired from our breeding program and neutered.
Owning a Female Guardian Dog
Males return when a female that he is needed for stud is in heat. We work with our Guardian Homes using a simple contract and we provide support and guidance all along the way, staying in contact through the year. At the end of the Guardian Home Family contract, the dogs belong 100% to the Guardian Family. Our space is very limited here at Paw paw Puppy Tales as our pets live indoors and are our family pets first and formost. Our dogs are not kenneled, retired to new homes, or sharing attention with a bunch of other dogs. They live in 1-3 dog homes and get to experience all the things a pet dog should!

A puppy will typically stay with a guardian home for two to three years. After that, the dog may be placed with a new family or it may stay with the same family for the rest of its life. An older dog, on the other hand, may only stay with a guardian home for one to two years. The dog's age is important because it determines how much time the dog will have to adjust to a new home. A younger dog will typically be easier to place in a new home than an older dog. The advantages of a guardian home are that the dog receives individualized attention and socialization in a home environment.
Not only is the guardian home getting a puppy for a very reduced price, but they are also compensated for each litter. The amount of litters the guardian dog will have is dependent on the female. When she completes her breeding obligations, we spay her for you at our expense, and she comes home to enjoy the wonderful life you have provided for her. You will get a pick of the litter puppy picked by us here at Whispering Willow’s. Often times it will be a female available and occasionally a male will be.
Unlike puppy farms, which keep dogs in cages or in small yards where they are isolated from humans, guardian dog families interact regularly with their dogs in a caring and loving environment. This provides the dogs with everything they need to live happy, healthy lives. By taking all of these factors into consideration, you can help to ensure that your dog will be placed in a home where he or she will be happy and healthy.
But the recent attacks appear to indicate the mountain lion may be in “distress”, officials said. If the dog becomes sick or injured, we need the family to notify us right away so we are involved in all decisions regarding the treatment of the dog. In many cases, we can save the family a lot of money if it is a simple issue, and in other situations, the treatment may need to be specific if the dog is going to be bred soon, or is pregnant. You must be willing to agree to not take him/her to dog parks or board him/ her at a kennel during the time period of the Guardianship Contract of 5 years. This is to help prevent a communicable disease that can cause infertility.
Often, there is a deposit to ensure commitment by the GH and then reimbursed over the time of the breeding career. The deposit also can be reimbursed at the end of the breeding career. The puppy/dog remains the property of the breeder until the end of the breeding career and then become the Guardian Home’s dog forever after. Typically at the age of 6 years, the dog then becomes part of the forever home. If you are a guardian for a female dog, you must be willing to drop her off for 1-2 weeks while she is bred and then pick her up after.
